Inflation drops in March
Inflation came in at 6.6% in March, down from February’s 7.2%. The cooling of price pressures was primarily due to a slower increase in prices for food. In addition, the trend pointed down, with annual average inflation coming in at 8.5% in March (February: 9.2%). Lastly, consumer prices rose a seasonally adjusted 0.42% in March over the previous month, coming in below February's 0.81% increase.
Commenting on the reading, ING’s Stefan Posea and Valentin Tataru stated: “We continue to see inflation trending down towards our 4.8% year-end call, which we maintain. Upside risks come from rising consumer demand and still-sharp wage growth, which we think will continue, as well as from the latest oil price and fiscal developments.”
